My Weekend
This weekend felt incredibly long to me, which started out not-so-good and ended up being better.
Friday
I had the day off so I cleaned the house and took the boys swimming to the river. The dock is still WAY out of the water, so no practice jumps. I have two bumpers, one for each of the boys and tried getting them each to retrieve their own…didn’t go so well. I would throw one way out there for Midas and Mason would fall behind as Midas pushed for it, I would then throw the second one right by Mason hoping they would each grab one. Did this happen? Heck no! Midas would bring the first one back until he saw Mason with one, at which point he would drop the one he was carrying and grap onto one end of Mason’s. Then as they got closer, Midas would wrest the bumper from Mason, bring it almost up to shore, then drop it to shake. Then it’s Mason’s chance! He would sneak in, grab it while Midas was shaking and finish the retrieve. At this time, I am frantically trying to redirect Midas’s attention to the bumper that he left behind which is now floating downstream…He bounds out to get it and we start all over again. FINALLY, they each brought one back and I took them away – quit while we’re ahead. Then they were playing in the water. Midas all of a sudden started sinking. He popped back up and started swimming in circles, snapping at his back-end. Then he would sit in the water trying to reach back there, until he would begin to sink, then he would swim. Right before I became thoroughly panicked and went in after him he came in on his own. Wrapped around his back leg was a huge ball of fishing lure, with weights still attached. It wasn’t tight or cutting into him, but I quickly removed it. I watched him closely for awhile and he was fine so I let them play for awhile more and then we left.
When Eric got home we headed to Kalamazoo to have an extremely delicious cook-out (catered) and then go to the Wild Bull for some Branded. It was enjoyable. I got hit on by some really strange people but overall good times. The bar there was sweet! The ride home was moderately scary as Eric kept falling asleep at the wheel…so I had to watch him the whole time (he wouldn’t let me drive).
Saturday
Woke up to let the boys out and find that Midas is limping, badly. He is barely letting his foot hit the ground at all. I look it over and find it to be swollen, red and hot to the touch. After a quick call to OVS we headed up to Shelby to drop him off. The vet figured it was an abscess but quoted us on x-rays just in case it was a broken toe. Had lunch at my parents’ (which was really yummy) and back to pick Midas up. He was very excited to see us and ready to leave. He wasn’t favoring his foot anywhere near as badly. He did have an abscess: An abscess is an enclosed collection of liquefied tissue, known as pus, somewhere in the body. It is the result of the body’s defensive reaction to foreign material. The vet sedated him, sliced it open, drained it and sent us home with pain meds and anti-inflammatories (that’s three pills two times a day to shove down his throat, literally).
We were originally supposed to go to Grand Haven for an art fair and then the Coast Guard Festival Fireworks. It was really overcast and they were predicting rain so we decided to nix that plan and headed to the Intersection for Get The Cat and Chris Cagle (Get The Cat gave us backstage passes
). Get The Cat was entertaining and fun but I didn’t care for the security guy in the back and he hauled me around once and questioned me a lot (I wasn’t even trying to go in the back). Apparently he needs to “know” me before I can go anywhere, even with an All Access pass. Cagle was good as usual, but I didn’t absolutely love him like I usually do. He was more of a pervert and his security was ridiculous. No photo with him.
Sunday
We were supposed to go to The River (Jason and Jennifer camp up there on the weekends) first thing in the morning for tubing. When we woke up however, it was cloudy and overcast and as it came closer to time to leave it started to pour. I was sure the get-together would be cancelled but nope. Packed up and headed out later than planned but figured it would be fine because there was no way anyone would go tubing in this. Yeah, we were wrong. Turns out everyone waited for us for awhile and then headed out. It was still drizzling when we got there so although Jennifer’s parents offered to take us to the drop-off point, Eric decided we would just wait until they got back. The rest of the afternoon was highly enjoyable. Great food, good company and some really fun rides on the boat/jacked-up golf cart. I love Jason and Jennifer, I wish they lived closer so we could do more together.
Everyone packed up really early (we figured we wouldn’t be heading home until after dinner-time) and so we decided to follow and visit Kelli and John’s place. It is really nice. I wish I could build, I want to live out in the country in my own house so bad! Hopefully someday…We ended up getting home 3 hours earlier than we had planned but that meant more relaxation time! By the evening though I was feeling pretty yucky with a nasty cough…I think I got a cold.
